FEMA provides initial assistance for up to three months to homeowners and at least one month to renters. The assistance can be extended if needed. Financial assistance may be available to residents in specific counties affected by natural disasters. If initial rental assistance was received, survivors of Hurricane Ian or Nicole may be eligible for further assistance. Additional assistance, such as lodging expenses or rental assistance, may also be available to those affected by a federal disaster declaration. Direct Temporary Housing Assistance can last for up to 18 months after the disaster declaration. Properties must be available for at least 18 months, with the option for lease extension. This includes both corporate apartments and vacation properties.
