The daily dosage of Liposyn II (intravenous fat emulsion) ranges from 5 mL to 10 mL per kilogram for the 10% emulsion and 2.5 mL to 5 mL per kilogram for the 20% emulsion. The product is used to provide calories to patients receiving nutrition through an injection into the vein, and should not exceed 2.5 g of fat/kg of body weight (12.5 mL of Intralipid 20% per kg). This medication should make up no more than 60% of the total daily caloric requirement. For adolescents between 12-17 years old, the initial daily dosage is 1g/kg/day with a maximum of 2g/kg/day. Intralipid is a sterile, non-pyrogenic, white, homogenous lipid emulsion for intravenous infusion that provides essential fatty acids and calories.
