Canadian progressive sci-fi metal band Voivod, formed in 1982, has been through various changes in its band members. Since 2008, Dan Mongrain has been a member, replacing the late guitarist Denis D'Amour. Mongrain is also a co-founder. The band has toured with legends like Rush and has famous fans including Dave Grohl. Their sound is heavily influenced by 70s prog rock, hardcore punk, and the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. They have been active for over three decades, and their music is categorized as thrash metal, speed metal, progressive metal, progressive rock, psychedelic rock, industrial metal, groove metal, and space rock. However, their sound is often described as not fitting into any specific metal category. Their 14th studio album, The Wake, was released in 2018, and their original members, drummer Michel "Away" Langevin and vocalist Denis "Snake" Belanger, continue to lead the band. Their unique style has helped push the boundaries of rock and metal music.
