According to NHS Digital data in England, there were 1,226,677 full-time equivalent (FTE) Hospital & Community Health Service staff as of March 2022. However, the number of staff leaving overall rose by more than a quarter in 2022 compared to 2019. Of these departures, more than half left earlier than planned. The Nuffield Trust has reported a decrease in the nurse turnover rate and a corresponding decrease in nurse exits from the public sector. A fresh study shows a drop in care home staff turnover in London compared to the England average. The Royal College of Nursing warns of a nursing retention crisis as almost 27,000 people left the register in the past year. A recent report also shows a 12% decline in nursing acceptances in the UK, and around 3.7% of nurses, midwives, and nursing associates who trained in the UK ultimately left the workforce.
