Primary palliative care involves basic skills and competencies that can be practiced by any healthcare professional, while secondary care refers to specialized clinicians and organizations that provide consultation and specialty care. Tertiary and quaternary care are highly specialized forms of palliative care. Adult and pediatric palliative care have similar goals and principles, but differ in organizational and practical aspects.
