Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited genetic disorder that results in the production of thick and sticky mucus, which can cause severe damage to the lungs, digestive system, and other organs in the body. Treatment and management strategies for this chronic disease are available, but it is ultimately a life-shortening condition. CF affects various organs and is the result of an abnormality in a protein called CFTR.
