Julia Margaret Cameron was a renowned British photographer known for her portrait photography in the 19th century. She received her first camera at the age of 48, gifted to her by her daughter and son-in-law in 1863. Her collection includes 67 photographs, previously owned by her mentor and friend, artist G. F. Watts. Despite starting photography relatively late in life, she became one of the most famous photographers of Victorian Britain, winning awards and gaining recognition for her unique and otherworldly photographs. She focused more on the scientific processes of photography rather than technical perfection, which contributed to the beauty of her work. Cameron's work continues to be celebrated and studied, with her Tech Vanitas series winning the 14th Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Women Photographers in the Still Life category.
