Ford's counsel is accused of misconduct for mentioning the decision-making process of Ford executives in the "glass house" in the notorious Grimshaw v. Ford Motor Company case. This case was only one of the many lawsuits against Ford involving defective rear-end gas tanks. Grimshaw and Gray's family won damages of over $3 million in a jury trial against Ford. The case became famous in 1978 when $125 million in punitive damages were awarded, in addition to compensatory damages. Ford was also involved in a similar case where a Ford Pinto caught fire after being hit from behind and caused injuries. The court's decision in this case considered a consented remittitur in response to the verdict.
