The U.S. Embassy in Timor encourages students to consider studying in the USA, alongside hundreds of thousands of other international students. UNICEF provides teacher training in Timor with support from the government. An educational organization in Cambodia, East Timor, and Thailand focuses on providing education programs to urban and rural communities. The first learning centers for children with disabilities have opened in Timor-Leste. UNHCR provides a platform to find accredited higher education programs and scholarships. A scholarship was established in 2006 for Timorese students to study at Victoria University. Since 1999, IOM has provided assistance to approximately 190,000 Timorese returning to the country. The abolition of school fees and nationalist pride have helped in rebuilding the education system in Timor-Leste. NRC and NRC cooperation provide school construction and teacher training in rural areas in Timor. Timor Leste offers an educational scholarship program for secondary and tertiary students to improve access to education.
