The agreement states that the mine will be owned by a joint venture with a 51% stake owned by PNG. Barrick Gold Corporation, the parent company, aims to restart operations at the mine in the near future. The Governor General of PNG has granted a special mining lease to New Porgera Limited, a subsidiary of Barrick Gold Corporation. The company is currently seeking candidates to fill various positions at the mine.
